CHRISTMAS LESSONS FOR CHILDREN

Adapted from Katharine Kersey’s column, Raising Children

When you ask me what I want and what I’m going to get,

I learn that Christmas is GETTING.

When you tell me I’d better be good,

I learn that Christmas is CONDITIONAL.

When you make promises and don’t keep them,

I learn that Christmas is DISAPPOINTMENT.

When you are short-tempered and make threats,

I learn that Christmas is UNPREDICTABLE.

When you hurry around, get up early, and stay up late,

I learn that Christmas is ‘BUSY’.

When you do things for others and help me to do the same,

I learn that Christmas is SHARING.

When you go to church and take me with you,

I learn that Christmas is WORSHIP.

When you hum to yourself and smile at strangers,

I learn that Christmas is PEACE.

When you put up lights and bake cookies,

I learn that Christmas is PLEASURE.

When you stop in your busy day and spend time with me,

I learn that Christmas is LOVE.

Church School

We are very blessed with a great number of teachers and helpers, in our church school program. May God give us the courage and strength to carry on his work with love and understanding. "People were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them; and when the disciples saw it, they sternly ordered them not to do it. But Jesus called for them and said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs.’" Luke 18:15-16

Ephesians 5:20

“Always give thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

We give thanks to God for all the wonderful things that are happening in our Sunday school. We give thanks to all the teachers who share their faith and love with all the children. In the new year we are blessed to have 3 or 4 male teachers willing to teach the senior class and share their faith and love of God. We give thanks for all the children that are coming out with their parents and grandparents. We also give thanks for all the visitors and we invite them to come back. We pray that God will be present in their lives. We give thanks for the support of the congregation in everything we do. We give thanks for Rev. Gwen who is very encouraging, supportive and loving to us. We pray that God will continue to bless us as we carry on his work in the life of our church.

The joy of Christmas is fast approaching and this is such a busy time in all our lives. We mustn't forget the real meaning of Christmas. God's gift to us: His son, Jesus. To give in turn, the Sunday school, as in past years, is working on gathering gifts for a family. We’ll be getting a wish list for this family from the Salvation Army.

On December 3 the children are invited to come out and bake cookies with Rev. Gwen and company. This year we are having a Christmas store for children only, where our children will be able to shop for items at very affordable prices, just a  dollar or two with all proceeds designated for mission. Then on December 4 the children will be selling these cookies after church, and these proceeds will go to Change her World.

December 11 The children invite you to come out to our Christmas program, “The Candles of Christmas”, a telling of the Christmas story as seen by the advent candles. Our Sunday school is very excited to share the message of Christmas with you. Bring your favorite dish for our pot luck lunch after the service. Then on December 18 the children will be participating in church service in a variety of ways.

For December 25 and January 1 everyone will stay upstairs for worship. And of January 22, the service will be an all ages worship.

In the spring we will be visiting the nursing homes. Lots of excitement going on in the classrooms.

Looking ahead, the children have voted on the mission projects for the year. Here’s where our dollars are going.

The December Bake Sale proceeds will go to Change Her World.

With the upcoming coin drive, we’ll be helping an orphanage in Africa

Soup Sunday (January 29) proceeds will go to Sleeping Children Around the World.

John 3:18

“Dear children ,let us not love with words or tongue but with action and in truth.”

With thanks,

Bessie Hounsell
